What's your yoga story? How did you start/evolve in your practice?

I had taken yoga classes in years’ past, but they were so slow, the music put me to sleep and I wasn’t motivated. About three years ago, my friend Debbie talked me into coming to Lava Yoga. The music immediately inspired me. Then the consistency of the moves challenged me to continually try to improve. And the heat was intense, but I could handle it most of the time. I was a little self-conscious at first, but soon realized everyone is focused on themselves and doing their best. I have to modify a few moves, and that’s ok. Instructors have shown me ways to do the moves the best for my personal needs. I love having the strength and flexibility to hold the poses. There are moments in class, though, when the humidity is fogging the mirror and I’m dripping sweat, and all I can think about is the nice frozen and scented wash cloth at the end. But I always try to finish class strong. And every time I leave, I feel relaxed and energized at the same time.

Best advice ever given?

Never give up. And that can be applied to everything in your life.

Favorite Yoga Moment:

The first time I tried Humble Warrior and a side plank. I never thought I could do those. But after a few classes, I gave it a shot and I did them. That was great!

Favorite guilty pleasure?

Watching Survivor and Amazing Race.
